Back in March, life as we know it did a 180. ‘Normal’ life was put on hold as a lot of us stayed at home which meant plenty of time to do all sorts of things. At first, lockdown seemed like so much fun, almost like a holiday at home but soon enough the gurus of social media caught on and the face to face the world as we know it became accessible through every possible electronic device.
Zoom calls and online classes became the norm. A room full of just me, myself and I was all I had. We saw each other in our own homes. There were lots of giggles as some of us came out of our shells and others shed new light on their personalities. While the novelty of seeing my friends online was fun at first, I soon came to realise that no amount of zoom calls or online classes could fill the void of the personal touch I had come to know for the last 5 years. I missed my coaches! I missed chatting with my friends in the waiting room. I missed the hours of sweat and tears dedicated to cheer.
Going back to the gym definitely was a struggle. Finally getting out of the house and in a new but familiar environment was exciting. But I had fallen into a routine of training at home where I was restricted to a lot of things. Inferno’s coaches have been an amazing support in helping us all settle back into our old routines. I’m definitely looking forward to real-life competitions, the atmosphere and ambience have a feeling that no virtual experience can replace.
